Unpopular Opinion of Feminism
First off, I want to apologize for the late post this week.
Everything has been pretty hectic with assignments and exams.
Recently when I was looking through some of the new inventory at Old Mill Design & Exchange and I came across a really old book called The Ideal New Woman by Tremaudan and it was published in 1898.
Right off the bat, the first page caught my eye.
Next, I would like to say that I have been silent about a lot of things, but reading this book, made my heart stir, and I felt as if I had to share.
**Disclaimer: If you don’t like political posts, or people against feminism, turn away now.
This is what it said.”As Christianity shows, and every one of us knows, woman is a being neither superior nor inferior to man, endowed with faculties not less ample but different from his and in harmony with her physical nature, answering the end for which she is created. She may vindicate for herself the same rights as we, though under the essential reserve that they correspond with her providential mission (Gabriel Alix, in La Reforme Sociale, Oct. 1896).”
When I read this passage, I had to read it again to make sure I understood what was being said, and then I read it again… and then I read it allowed to my sister and mom because I liked the message behind it so much.
“not less ample but different from his and in harmony with her physical nature”
I think that is my favorite line from this quote.
How empowering is that? As women we aren’t any less than men, but we are different.
We are DIFFERENT from men, so why are woman set on being men?
Let’s hear it again:
“…woman is a being neither superior nor inferior to man.”
This was written in the 1800’s!
I think oftentimes woman who are fighting for the rights of feminism, are fighting the wrong battle. While it is super important for women to have the rights to vote, women shouldn’t be compared to man for anything.
The definition of feminism is “the advocacy of women’s rights on the grounds of political, social, and economic equality to men.”
Why must woman be equal to men?
God created us differently for a reason. We are fearfully & wonderfully made.
I’m not saying that believing in the power of women is wrong, because I definitely believe that there are things that only woman could and should do and the same goes for men. I’m not saying that woman can’t be strong, independent or smart. I’m not saying that woman should not stick up for themselves or for each other.
With all that being said, I do believe that some battles need to be fought. The woman in today’s world are blessed more than we know to be able to have the right to vote, to work in a “man’s world” and to be more than a common housewife. I never want to take it for granted.
I know this post isn’t the most educated, and I am sorry if I offended anyone. But I beg you, to look at the other side of things every once in awhile, see ideas in a different light. There are bigger battles to be fought.
Thank you so much for reading.
I hope you all have a beautiful Saturday!
