Healthy Ways to Start Your Morning

A new year usually brings a resolution to eat a little healthier, at least mine always do! If you start your morning the right way, it will help you feel as if you are ready to tackle the rest of your day!

I have compiled a short list of healthy ways to start your morning. These are simple things that could easily be added to a morning routine. Although most of these are simple, they have the ability to make a pretty big difference in your morning. You could start by doing one of these things and then slowly incorporating other.

1. Stretch

I have found that stretching wakes me up and I feel ready to tackle the day after spending a few minutes stretching. If I can get out of bed and get my blood flowing, I am less likely to want to get back into bed.

2. Drink water

Drinking water in the morning is a perfect way to jump-start your day. You wake up dehydrated, and your body will thank you when you drink water first thing in the morning. Don’t like the idea of plain water early in the morning, add some fruit such as lemon, oranges or more to your water the night before to infuse it.

Some infused water combinations are lemon-cucumber, raspberry-mint, strawberry-basil and orange-kiwi.

3. Make a smoothie

I love a good smoothie! Recently I have been loving this recipe:

1 Banana

½ cup frozen strawberries

½ avocado

handful of spinach

small scoop of yogurt (optional)

splash of white grape juice

This is a delicious combo! Let me know if you try this out, I would love to know how you like it!

4. Eating Breakfast

Breakfast is such an essential start to your morning. Eating breakfast effects the way you think and ultimately is an overall healthy way to start your morning off on the right foot.

5. Sunlight

Exposure to natural sunlight is such a great way to wake up your body and brain in a natural way.

6. Have a schedule

Wake up at the same time every morning. If you have a habit of going to bed late and waking up late, make it your goal to go to bed 15 minutes earlier every night and wake up 15 minutes earlier. If you set yourself a normal morning routine, you will be less likely to stray from the things that your body needs.

Having a morning routine or schedule that you enjoy, can even make you want to wake up and start your morning!

7. Drink Tea

I used to not enjoy tea, but I have started drinking it more and it is really growing on me. This is a great substitute for a sugary coffee drink and it is also a great way to hydrate in the morning. Different teas have different benefits, but I have been enjoying a minty green tea and it is nice to have something hot to drink on cold mornings!

 

So there you have it, 7 easy and simple ways to start your morning. I am by no means a pro at “healthy” things, but these are all things I am striving for and thought I would share them with you!

  • Love these ideas! I think I do a lot of them in the morning already! I love that smoothie recipe too. I normally don’t add avocado to my smoothies but I tried it the other day and loved it!

  • I definitely drink water immediately in the mornings, especially before coffee. My rule is to drink at least 16.9 ounces (one bottle) before I’m allowed to enjoy the java. It is my reward for starting the day off right. These are all great suggestions and I will definitely try to implement more of these info my morning routine. 🙂
