Creating a Media Kit

 

Recently I have been reading a lot on how to pitch yourself to brands and PR and I have read over and over again how important it is to have a media kit. Having a media kit will make it easier to pitch to brands because you will have all your information in one place that is easily accessible.

So I sat down and wrote down all the information that I thought would be important to share with a brand manager, PR, or someone interested in doing a possible collaboration.

I knew I needed to have my blog name and a way for them to contact me, and of course my blog URL. Social media stats were also one of the first things that came to mind. I knew I wanted to share past collabs and brands that I had previosuly worked with.

I wanted to present something that was both professional and sophisticated without bogging down the reader with too much information.

 

Creating my own media kit was so much fun! I wanted something that people would look at and see cohesiveness and also creativity. And I wanted something that would tie back to my personality and personal brand image.

They are both different, but contain mostly the same information. Which one do you like better? I definitely like the second one better!

Other bloggers suggest giving brands information along with this, such as stating where yuo are from, going into more depth of what you love about the brand and what kind of content you would like to create for them.

Don’t be afraid to reach out to brands, the worst they can say is no, and you are back to where you started, which is totally okay!

  • HI! I love the idea of a media kit! I don’t really have the numbers or influence to think about doing something like that, but I’ve always wanted to promote for brands! Perhaps I’ll do that sometime this year and grow myself a little more than I felt that I could. Thank you for posting these…and yes, I like the second one better also!

    • Thank you so much for commenting!! I have been gearing up to start reaching out to brands because I have enjoyed the collaborations and sponsorships that I have previously done!

  • Hey Sarah, I saw a post online about this topic. It really got me thinking and I really do plan to have one as well. My aim is to have a small business but at the same time could use this since I use social media and use a lot of other products to create mine. I will definitely use your advise on this topic ….:D

      • Great question! The biggest thing you can do when you are just starting out is to grow your audience naturally! Some ways to do that are to make sure that you post on a regular basis, utilize social media to get the word out about your posts, and be confident in you work! I started by building my brand and then I started reaching out to companies! I definitely think Influenster is a great place to start if you’re interested in reviewing products but don’t have a super large following yet!   • This is really great information! I don’t have quite the following yet to start reaching out to brands myself, but creating something like this will definitely be put on my list of goals! I love the second one you created, very cute + a great way to make yourself stand out from everyone else in your niche!
