First Line Friday (Week 2)

First Line Friday (Week 2)

Hello everyone!

Welcome to the second week of First Line Friday’s post!

First Line:

“”They’re coming.”

I looked down the row of Aska hunched against each other, ducking behing the muddy hill.”

2 lines because I couldn’t just leave ya’ll with two words. 🙂

Read my review of Sky in the Deep: Sky in the Deep: Book Review.

I still can’t get over how beautiful this cover is.

Hardcover, 352 pages
Expected publication: April 24th 2018 by Wednesday Books

Synopsis from Goodreads:

Raised to be a warrior, seventeen-year-old Eelyn fights alongside her Aska clansmen in an ancient rivalry against the Riki clan. Her life is brutal but simple: fight and survive. Until the day she sees the impossible on the battlefield—her brother, fighting with the enemy—the brother she watched die five years ago.

Faced with her brother’s betrayal, she must survive the winter in the mountains with the Riki, in a village where every neighbor is an enemy, every battle scar possibly one she delivered. But when the Riki village is raided by a ruthless clan thought to be a legend, Eelyn is even more desperate to get back to her beloved family.

She is given no choice but to trust Fiske, her brother’s friend, who sees her as a threat. They must do the impossible: unite the clans to fight together, or risk being slaughtered one by one. Driven by a love for her clan and her growing love for Fiske, Eelyn must confront her own definition of loyalty and family while daring to put her faith in the people she’s spent her life hating.

  • That cover! I’m sharing from Where the Fire Falls on my blog today but I’m currently reading The Backcountry Brides Collection, so here is the first line from the first novella, Shenandoah Hearts by Carrie Fancett Pagels:

    Prologue
    Philadelphia 1753
“Ladysmith, you have a gentleman caller–maybe two.” The voice of her employer, Jacob Owens, held a slight tease.

    Happy Friday!

  • That’s definitely an intriguing cover!

I’m sharing the first line of The Man He Never Was by James L Rubart on my blog, a modern retelling of the story of Jekyll and Hyde.

I’m currently reading The Esther Paradigm by Sarah Monzon, a modern marriage of convenience story based on the Book of Esther. Here’s the first line of the Prologue:

Hannah Pratt stared out across the grainy hills as the wind blew a gentle kiss over the crest.

    • It was SUCH a good read!!
& boy do I know what you mean about a large TBR!
Thanks so much for reading and commenting! xo

  • I really love this idea for a blog series! It’s such a great way to share a new read with your followers without any spoilers or too much detail about the book itself xx

    • Thanks so much! It is my second week doing it and everyone seems to love it! Thanks so much for reading and commenting!
