SNYOPSIS FROM GOODREADS:

Outside the palace of Versailles, it’s modern day. Inside, the people dress, eat, and act like it’s the eighteenth century—with the added bonus of technology to make court life lavish, privileged, and frivolous. The palace has every indulgence, but for one pretty young thing, it’s about to become a very beautiful prison.

When Danica witnesses an act of murder by the young king, her mother makes a cruel power play . . . blackmailing the king into making Dani his queen. When she turns eighteen, Dani will marry the most ruthless and dangerous man of the court. She has six months to escape her terrifying destiny. Six months to raise enough money to disappear into the real world beyond the palace gates.

Her ticket out? Glitter. A drug so powerful that a tiny pinch mixed into a pot of rouge or lip gloss can make the wearer hopelessly addicted. Addicted to a drug Dani can sell for more money than she ever dreamed.

But in Versailles, secrets are impossible to keep. And the most dangerous secret—falling for a drug dealer outside the palace walls—is one risk she has to take.

MY REVIEW OF Glitter:

This story follows a character named Danica who is betrothed to the King of Versailles. She wants nothing more than to leave the palace behind and the only way she can do this is by selling an illegal drug called Glitter.

It has such an interesting premise, set in the modern-day world, but the people living in the palace of Versailles dress to impress. Full of corsets, coattails, frivolous spending, luxury upon luxury. Another element is that the palace of Versailles has an AI named M.A.R.I.E, with robots and tech from the future. There really are a lot of things that make this book unique, and I love it!

This book has a gorgeous cover that is just begging to be read.

Right off the bat, I could tell that this book would be a controversial read for some people, with murders and deaths, blackmail and illegal substances. I can see why this book isn’t for everyone, but all in all I though it was an exciting book.

I really enjoyed Danica’s character. She is mysterious and bold, and she grows along with the book.

There were definitely some plot twists that I didn’t see coming, and this book kept me up way past my bedtime.

This is a book where my rating is actually higher than the average rating on Goodreads. Although this book has several problems, I couldn’t help but fall in love with the storyline. Aprilynne Pike became one of my favorite authors after reading her Wings Series.

I will definitely be picking up the second (and I believe final) book in this series, Shatter.

If you enjoy young adult dystopian fantasy, then this book needs to be added to your TBR.

Thanks for stopping by and reading!
