Nevermoor The Trials of Morrigan Crow – This book is a Middle Grade Fantasy that is fun and lighthearted, with magic, wonder and talking cats, it is a must read for fans of Harry Potter.

Serpent & Dove (Serpent & Dove #1) by Shelby Mahurin

This is a book that I haven’t read yet, but has made its way on to my TBR simply because of all the high! I keep hearing about this book everywhere! There is so much hype, and I am excited to get to reading it!

Sea Fire & Steel Tide – I recently finished Steel Tide, but these books have the best friendships! The sisterly loyalty (aka friendship) is to die for!

Goose Girl– this is an older Middle Grade read & it a series that I LOVED reading in the middle school/high school. The nostalgia alone warms my heart. If you haven’t read this series, even as an adult, I encourage you to check it out!

The Art of French Kissing – this book is definitely a fluffy contemporary read. When I read it last year I gave it a 3 out of 5 stars. I couldn’t think of any books that I’ve read with talented chefs, so this one (even though its about baking) fits the bill.

King Unveiled – This book was SO good, and you need to read it. It made me jump for joy, just because of how good the writing is. Ugh, I loved it. King Unveiled: Book Review – just go read my SPOILER free review!

If you want to do this book tag, consider yourself tagged! Let me know if you end up doing it, because I would love to read your answers!!

Mini Pumpkin Pies

Mini Pumpkin Pies

Welcome to (1)

Blogmas Day 6

While scrolling through Pinterest (as one does) and I happened upon the cutest fall recipe: MINI PUMPKIN PIES. When I think of mini pumpkin pies, I was thinking of like cupcake size, but these are seriously mini – like bite-size mini. They are the kind of mini pies that you don’t feel so bad about eating because they are so small.

This recipe comes from Lil’ Luna.

This recipe seriously takes no time at all and they are the perfect amount of pie dough & pumpkin!

I used my mom’s ever trusty pie dough recipe:

2 1/2 cups flour

1 tsp salt

1/2 cups water

1/2 cups oil

Combine all ingredients in a medium size bowl. Do NOT over stir or the dough will become tough.

Put the dough in between 2 sheets of parchment paper or wax paper. Roll out the dough, it needs to be pretty thin.

Please ignore my ugly kitchen flooring in the above photo! It is one of the renovation projects coming soon on our list!

After you have the dough rolled out, use a cookie cutter to make cut-outs in your dough.

The original recipe calls for a 3-inch cookie cutter (it can be round or scalloped) – but the one I used the cookie cutter pictured above from from Amazon.

Grease or spray a mini-cupcake tin and preheat the oven to 350 degrees. Now its time to make the filling, which unfortunately, I didn’t get any pictures of.

  • 1 cup pumpkin puree
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream
  • 1 egg
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 3 tbsp granulated sugar
  • 1 tsp pumpkin pie spice
  • 1/2 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp kosher sea salt
  • 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Spray two mini muffin tins with baking spray, set aside.
  2. Roll out pie dough on a baking mat or lightly floured surface. Using a 3″ circle or flower shape cookie cutter, cut out 24 pieces. Gently press into the wells of the prepared muffin tins. Place in the refrigerator to chill.

  3. Meanwhile, in a large mixing bowl, whisk together the pumpkin puree, heavy cream, egg, sugars, pumpkin pie spice, cinnamon, salt and vanilla.

  4. Remove the tins from the refrigerator and fill each crust with 1.5 tablespoons of filling (you can use a #40 cookie scoop to do this). Tap the tins on the counter to create a smooth, even filling.

  5. Place in the oven and bake for 18-22 minutes or until the crust begins to turn golden brown in color. Remove from the oven and allow to cool in the tins for 15 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.

  6. Top with whipped cream and a sprinkle of cinnamon, if desired. Serve room temperature or chilled.

Note: the original recipe says this only makes 24 mini pies, but I had a lot of filling leftover at the end.

Also – don’t add the whipped cream until you are ready to serve or better yet, have your guests add their own whipped cream.

Optional – sprinkle with cinnamon after adding whipped cream.

Let me know if you try this recipe and how much you like it!

I think its the perfect bite-size taste of fall!

Thanks so much for stopping by & reading this blog post – I will see you tomorrow for Day 7 of Blogtober!

Steel Tide Blog Tour

Steel Tide Blog Tour

I am so excited to announce that I am apart of the Blog Tour for Steel Tide.

I also participated in the Blog Tour for Seafire which is the first book in this trilogy. You can read my review here: Seafire Blog Tour.

If you haven’t gotten your hands on Seafire, here is the synopsis:

After her family is killed by corrupt warlord Aric Athair and his bloodthirsty army of Bullets, Caledonia Styx is left to chart her own course on the dangerous and deadly seas. She captains her ship, the Mors Navis, with a crew of girls and women just like her, who have lost their families and homes because of Aric and his men. The crew has one mission: stay alive, and take down Aric’s armed and armored fleet.

But when Caledonia’s best friend and second-in-command barely survives an attack thanks to help from a Bullet looking to defect, Caledonia finds herself questioning whether to let him join their crew. Is this boy the key to taking down Aric Athair once and for all…or will he threaten everything the women of the Mors Navis have worked for?

If you haven’t started this trilogy, the Steel Tide synopsis does include SPOILERS! I repeat if you don’t want SPOILERS for the first book, stop reading this blog & come back after you have read Seafire!

The second book in a heart-stopping trilogy that follows the captain of an all-female ship intent on taking down a vicious warlord’s powerful fleet.

Caledonia may have lost her crew, but she’s not done fighting yet. After nearly dying at the hand of a powerful foe, Caledonia is pulled from the sea and nursed back to health by a crew of former Bullets that call themselves Blades. The Blades escaped Aric Athair’s clutches and now live a nomadic existence, ready to disappear at a moment’s notice should trouble come their way.

But Caledonia wants to do more than just hide. She wants to find the Mors Navis and her beloved sisters. She wants to continue fighting Aric’s fleet and to take back the Bullet seas. She’ll need to do everything in her power to convince the Blades that fighting is their only option, that there has to be a life better than the one under Aric Athair’s reign, and that finding the women of the Mors Navis is the first step to revolution.

My Review of STEEL TIDE:

I was gifted an ARC of Steel Tide in exchange for an honest review & as a part of the blog tour. Receiving this book in no way effected my review. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Young Adult – Fantasy – Adventure

This book started off with such an intriguing prologue – we see the Bullet attack from Caledonia’s brothers point of view (where the first book: Seafire begins as well).

I was hooked from the first pages. This book may be a little daunting for some – clocking in at 448 pages – but let me tell you, it hardly feels that long with the amount of action. This book is extremely fast paced, and is very hard to put down.

In this second installment, we meet new characters whom you are bound to fall in love with. Caledonia – grows as a main character, and it is so fun to see the direction the book takes with her.

The main reason I loved Seafire was the adventure and the nod to sisterhood and family loyalty and those are the same main reasons why I am giving Steel Tide 5 out of 5 stars.

If you are looking for an adventure packed book with fiercely loyal characters, then look no further – you found your next read (or your TBR pile just grew a little larger).

If you do pick up Seafire or Steel Tide and enjoy listening to music while you read these are the songs I suggest you listen to, because not only will they help you flip the pages faster, they will make you feel like you are on the ship with Caledonia and her sisters. (& yes, sorry, I know its extremely cliche but the majority of these songs come from the Pirates of the Caribbean soundtracksEnjoy!
