Motivation Monday | Spring Morning Routine

Ahhh mornings, ya either love ’em or hate ’em. Which are you? A morning lover or hater? Overall, I’m not much of a morning person, but there are some tips and tricks to make your morning more enjoyable and even get you excited to get out of bed in the morning. I’m not going to try and convince you to wake up at 5 AM (because that is literally crazy) but I might try and convince you that waking up earlier can be a really good thing!

In this post I’m going to share my morning routine that I am trying to implement. I will also share some tips and tricks to wake up earlier and to enjoy your morning more!

Waking up earlier used to be one of my least favorite things in the world. In college I would stay up super late, usually watching Netflix and would stay in bed until 10 AM or later.

Now that I have joined the working world, staying up late, and waking up late just isn’t an option.

My body naturally wakes up between 6:45 AM and 7:30 AM, and listening to your body is a GOOD thing.

I have to be at work at 8 AM, so my alarm is set for 7 AM as it doesn’t take me that long to get ready in the mornings. Recently, I have made it a goal to get out of bed before 7 everyday to give myself more time to get ready and have a more relaxed morning.

I have been tricking my brain by setting my alarm earlier and earlier every morning while ALSO going to bed earlier. Getting enough sleep is definitely key. If your body isn’t rested, then you will wake up grumpy, and your whole day will start off-kilter.

On days that I work, my morning routine is vastly different from the days that I do work.

Today I will be sharing my work morning routine: 

6:45 AM – Wake up! This is my current wake up time!

One habit that I am trying to get rid of, is scrolling through my phone when I wake up.

6:50 AM – Make Bed & Stretch – Making your bed in the morning and spending a few moments stretching is a great way to wake up your body and mind. It also helps the temptation of crawling back in bed!

DRINK WATER – After I “weigh-in” I begin drinking water. Hydrating first thing in the morning is SO important. After 6-8 hours of not getting any water, your body is practically begging for some!

6:55 AM – Brush Teeth

7:00 AM – Get dressed – I usually try to set out my outfits the night before, so I don’t have to spend a lot of time thinking about what to wear in the morning.

7:10 AM – Put a kettle of water on

While the water is boiling I: Make & Eat Breakfast – Breakfast for me is usually oatmeal or cheerios with milk. I try to eat as clean as possible in the morning.

7:20 AM – Make French Press Coffee and/or tea – I have been trying to drink green tea every morning with some fresh squeezed lemon and a little but of honey. I usually only have coffee on days when I feel especially tired. I still don’t like coffee black, so I usually add some half & half and a small bit of sugar, which makes coffee a treat!

Also I put the tea and coffee in mugs to take to work, I don’t drink it at home!

7:30 AM – Pack Lunch and fill up my Hydro Flask! My Hydro Flask holds 32 oz. of water, so I try to fill it and drink it 3 times per day, which is 96 oz. I don’t stress if I don’t finish the third bottle.

For lunch I am a creature of habit, and if we don’t have really tasty leftovers, I will pack an apple, a carrot, a handful of almonds, and some munchies like pretzels or chips. On occasional Friday’s I go out for lunch, but I have been trying to save money, and packing lunch is definitely a way to do that!

7:45 AM – Gather everything and leave!

So there ya have it, that’s my current morning routine. I would like to get to the point where I am reading a bit before work, and spending less time on my phone and more time being intentional with my body and my thoughts.

I would like to continue moving my ‘wake-up’ time earlier each morning. My goal will probably be somewhere between 6 and 6:30 AM.
