4 out of 5 stars
SNYOPSIS FROM GOODREADS:
Danica planned to use beauty, blackmail, and a glittering drug to control her own fate. Her escape from the twisted world of the Palace of Versailles was perfectly orchestrated and paid for. Or so she thought.
Betrayed by the man who had promised her freedom, Dani is now married to the murderous King. It’s a terrifying position to be in…and yet it’s oddly intoxicating. Power may be an even stronger drug than Glitter–a drug Dani can’t resist, in the form of secrets, manipulation, and sabotage.
In her new position at the head of the court, Dani must ask herself who she really is. Can she use her newfound power to secure her real love, Saber’s freedom and a chance at a life together outside the palace? Or is being Queen too addictive to give up?

MY REVIEW OF Shatter:
Royalty. Romance. Rebellion.
I love the cover of this book as much as I liked the cover of Glitter!
What a ride! This book was so much fun. Set in futuristic version of the palace of Versailles in which people have modern technology and comforts yet they still live as if it’s the eighteenth century. I love the idea of dressing in the full livery of the past and yet still having access to futuristic tech, it is just such a unique idea.
This book is full of plot twists and conniving plans. I love the different paths that this book takes. A lot of the plot was unpredictable, and that is something I really enjoy when reading a book. I just had to get to the end of it because I had no clue what was going to happen.
I enjoyed Danica’s character a lot more in the first book, Glitter, but overall she was still a likable character. I still found myself rooting for her and for wanting her to succeed.
My favorite character of this series would have to be Saber, who I can’t give a full desciption of without giving away too many spoilers. His character is extremely likable, written as extremely handsome and long-suffering, he makes a perfect lover for Danica.
I thought that the secondary cast of characters were extremely well-written. They are diverse and have their own faults, as well as strengths.
Although I believe this book is only a duology, Aprilynne Pike could easily pick the story up right where she left it off. I really enjoyed how this book ended.
As a whole this series was well written, fast paced and captivating and truly unique.
If you enjoy young adult dystopian fantasy full of fancy ladies, heroic acts, Glitter, and handsome gentlemen, then look no further!
