So summer is finally here, and you’re looking forward to being able to spend more time outdoors in the fresh air. But with the sun shining, there’s also a risk for some serious damage to your skin if you’re not careful! The good news is that it’s easy to avoid these skin-ruining issues by following these 7 tips from our dermatologist.
Tips for staying healthy in Summer
-Stay hydrated to avoid heat stroke and dehydration
-Avoid Sugar. This summer has been said to be the worst for sugar addiction
-Eat healthy. Try to stay away from fatty foods, such as fried foods, processed meats, sauces and pizza
-Stay active. There are tons of free fitness classes in your community that can help you stay active this summer
-Protect yourself. UV rays can cause skin cancer or sunburns; always wear sunscreen or cover up with a hat and sunglasses when outdoors
-Know when to rest. Our bodies need time to recover so it’s important to relax, get plenty of sleep, and not push our limits too hard
How to stay active
Exercise is a must if you want to stay healthy. It helps maintain weight, lowers blood pressure, and improves mood. However, it’s not always easy to find the time to work out. Luckily, there are many ways to get active without going to the gym or taking a run outdoors. If you don’t have time for long workouts, try getting up from your chair every hour and doing 10 squats or push-ups at a time. You can also take the stairs instead of elevators when possible.
How to stay cool in Summer
1. Be willing to wear layers, rather than sweat buckets
2. Wear sunscreen with an SPF of at least 30
3. Don’t forget to drink lots of water
4. Try to stay in the shade as much as possible
5. Keep your home between 68-72 degrees Fahrenheit
6. Watch out for signs of heat exhaustion or heat stroke and take appropriate action immediately
7. Drink plenty of liquids
When is the best time of day to exercise?
The best time to exercise is during the morning. Post-exercise carbohydrate consumption is most effective when you do your exercise in the morning, as it’s been shown to boost performance much more than later in the day. The best time for lunch is around noon, as it’s a good time for digestion.
When is the best time of day for a nap?
A nap can help you feel less stressed, more productive, and provide better overall wellness. When it comes to feeling rested after a nap, the hour of day is important. Naps taken in the afternoon or evening are not as restful. Taking a nap between 1 pm and 4 pm has been shown to be the best time for naps that give you the most bang for your buck.
What to eat to stay hydrated
If you’re exercising, it’s important to stay hydrated. If you’re not, you should still try to drink plenty of water every day. Avoiding sugary drinks will also help you avoid dehydration. Drink at least 300 ounces of water per day for best results. You can get an idea of how much liquid this is from your urine. The darker the color, the more dehydrated you are.
How should I dress during the summer?
This can depend on where you live, but in many places, it is not too hot to wear long sleeves. You should also think about wearing lightweight, breathable fabrics such as cotton. Another suggestion is to wear sun-blocking clothing and a hat if you are outside for an extended period of time.
The summer season requires some extra attention as it is the time when we are most susceptible to getting sick. We should try to avoid going outside during the hottest hours of the day which is between 10am and 4pm. Stay hydrated, take off your shoes and socks at home, and put on a mask before leaving if you do go outside. It is also important to make sure that we eat healthy, lean meats and fresh vegetables.
