Motivation Monday | Breaking Up With Your Phone

Motivation Monday | Breaking Up With Your Phone

Come back every Monday for Motivation on a different topic!

Like always, if you have an idea of something you would like to hear about, please leave a suggestion in the comments below and I will try and incorporate it into the series!!

This blog will cover a few tips and tricks to break up with your phone and form better habits.

Don’t take your phone to bed – better yet, don’t even bring it into the bedroom

I am so guilty of this, and when my phone is only a reach away, it’s so easy to scroll through all of social media right before bed, and then do the same thing when you first wake up in the morning.

I challenge you to charge your phone on the opposite side of the room as your bed. This will cause you to be intentional about putting your phone down for the night, and it will cause you to get out of bed first thing in the morning if you have an alarm set on your phone.

When in a social setting don’t carry your phone in your hand, or leave it out on the table

If you are out at dinner with friends, and your phone lights up, what do you do? Ignore the notification and go back to the conversation, or do you pick up the phone and reply to the text, snapchat, ect.? Do you find it rude when people can’t continue the conversation because they are SO into their device?

To avoid this, put your phone in your handbag, and save the notifications for later.

Put your phone on Airplane mode or Do Not Disturb

This is good for when you don’t want to be distracted, as well as, when you want to spend some quality time doing something other than staring at your phone.

Do one thing at a time.

I saw this piece of advice somewhere and it really struck a cord with me. Basically, if you are doing something, be intentional about giving it your undivided attention.

If you are walking down the street, walk down the street and notice the different things you are passing. When you are walking down the street, don’t try and type a text or check your email or take a selfie. When you are having a conversation with someone, be in that conversation.

Find alternatives to scrolling through social media

Find other outlets or creative hobbies to participate in. We spend and invest so much of our time in a small device that will never yield any kind of results. In fact, we usually feel worse about ourselves after spending so much time scrolling through everyone’s picture perfect lives.

Do you have a problem with spending too much time on your phone? Have your successfully broken up your phone? Let me know in the comments!!

Thanks so much for stopping by and reading this Motivation Monday post!

xoxo
